Students in Mrs. Jenkin's 2nd grade class used Canva & Chatterpix to create presentations on their specific Social Studies Weekly articles, and then posted each creation to Showbie. It was great to see students spread throughout the room working collaboratively with and without technology.  I especially loved seeing them laugh, and add humor to their project! Check them out below!

Our hAPPy Friday app sharing this week introduces Draw & Tell HD -- an app younger students can use for drawing and simplified animation.  Whether exploring color and pattern combinations in the coloring-page section, drawing their own images, or creating mini-animations with movable "stickers" and voiceover, this app offers many open-ended exploration opportunities.  For more info on how to integrate this app in your classroom, check out the app integration handout. Many thanks to VVE kindergarteners who shared some of their own creations as well as VVE Ed Tech, Holly Moore for this post.

Next Brilliant Inventor

11/11/2016

I can't believe STEM day was a week ago!  Our bluejays had a fabulous time, including our kindergartners!  Holly Moore, the EdTech from Valley View and I led a session on how to be the Next Brilliant Inventor. We were inspired by Andrea Beaty's book Rosie Revere, Engineer.  After reading the book to the class, we allowed each child to make a plan, and decide on where they would like to go first.

The Make & Take area included materials that the students could build, make and take their invention home. The Stay & Play areas consisted of brainstorming with the whiteboard, blocks, lights & circuits, magnets & a imaginative table!  Each student was engaged, with smiles on their faces for the ENTIRE session!

This session reminded me that we need to give our students time to use their imagination, and explore!

While 5th grade was learning the 50 states, they decided to take advantage of the iLab and its great space!  You too should teach a lesson in this awesome, flexible seating space - all you need to do is reserve it on the iLab Calendar!

This week's hAPPy Friday app is World's Worst Pet Vocabulary. World’s Worst Pet Vocabulary is an engaging way to build vocabulary for students in grades 3 and up. Students practice identifying synonyms, antonyms, prefixes and suffixes as they find a way to save their pet Snargg from peril to get him home safely. Take a look at the App Integration Snapshot for more information.

4th Graders from Mrs. Roberson's class researched the different Native American Tribes in Texas.  They designed backgrounds using Canva, and inputted their information using Thinglink. Great work!
