As the process of providing apps through Self Service (EISD version of the Apple App Store) continues to be refined and improved, the Elementary EdTechs will be featuring a new app each week while including some ideas for curriculum integration.  This Friday's app is Canva, a web-based tool for creating graphics of all sizes and types.

Check out the App Integration Snapshot and watch the video above for a quick start to using this app in your classroom.  Additionally the first time you access the app on your iPad it has a terrific how-to-step-through session!

4th graders used Padlet to brainstorm bonus rooms for their ideal school.
5th graders created collages, posted them to Google Classroom, and then commented on each others'

Today our kinder students figured out that sometimes the best way to learn is by trying first!  It's ok if you mess up, or click the wrong button, you will eventually learn how to make it work!  Within 5 minutes of trying, they were loving Scratch Jr. & Animal Math!

The BCE Hallways are filled with beautiful, unique, creative dots thanks to Mrs. Vendetti and our Bluejays!  Each student was able to create a dot for International Dot Day.

Check out what each grade produced:

Kinder ~ Printed different size dots
1st ~ Painted as a group different size dots on very large paper
2nd ~ Created cool color and warm color dots and also positive and negative space
3rd ~ Made patterened dots with sharpie and then painted
4th ~ Used yarn to make radiating lines or rotating square or spectrum dots
5th ~ Weaved dots using CD's as looms

Children are Powerful!

On Friday, 5th graders in Ms. Kutchman's class reflected on what it means to be a good citizen. Students thought about what they could do individually to be a respected citizen, and how they could contribute to their community.  First, students brainstormed at least 5 ideas using the Pages or Notes app.
Afterwards, students took a selfie and imported it into the Thinglink app.  From there, students posted words, videos, pictures and drawings of how they are going to be good citizens in the community.
The final product on Thinglink were powerful, meaningful and very thoughtful! Great work fifth graders and Ms. Kutchman!

Our teachers & students were thrilled to have rolled out over 500 brand new iPad 2 Airs within one week of school! Students enrolled their iPads into our new MDM system, signed their iPad contracts, set up their Eanes email, and became familiar with our new app store through the Self-Service App.  Self-Service allows students to only download approved educational apps! Already our Bluejays are exploring all the different features that our new iPad has!
